Job Title: Program Manager – Leadership & Annual Giving

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation was formed in 2005 after the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation joined forces in May of 2005 to create a healthier generation by addressing one of the nation's leading public health threats -- childhood obesity. Along with our co-leader Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, the Alliance works to positively affect the places that can make a difference to a child's health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctor's offices and communities.

Overview of the Position:

Under the direction of the Director of Development of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, the Program Manager – Leadership & Annual Giving will plan and implement strategies for the development and launch of a comprehensive annual giving campaign.  Also responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new individual major gift prospects to secure outright gifts in the $1,000+ range for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation priorities. Frequent travel within the continental United States will also be required.

Duties include identify funding sources and priorities, prepare written and oral presentations to potential donors, develop gift opportunities, cultivate and solicit gift prospects with Alliance priorities and in-line with Development protocol and policies. Develop and implement a comprehensive national e-philanthropy and Annual Giving campaign.  The position also may be required to fulfill other development responsibilities as needed.

The Program Manager will assist the DOD in activities related to the growth and development of the Alliance Development program, as required, and fulfill other development activities as they relate to the Alliance and its initiatives as defined by the Director of Development and Executive Director.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated success at raising funds by developing and implementing strategic solicitation fundraising plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with the Alliance in a dynamic non-profit setting at the five and six figure level.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement persuasive cultivation ideas and techniques for prospects and donors.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that demonstrate correct grammar usage, syntax, and format, with the ability too make oral presentations and/or interpret various related programs to potential donors, while representing the Alliance initiatives and the mission of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
  • Demonstrated skill in researching and evaluating information, preparing concise, well-organized reports, summaries, correspondence, policy documents and personalized letters.
  • Ability to develop e-philanthropy campaigns as well as strong organizational skills to help facilitate a comprehensive Annual Giving campaign.
  • Proven ability to work with a higher level of independence, prioritize assignments and departmental needs to meet deadlines. Demonstrated strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience with, and ability to develop and use, computer applications and capabilities to create and maintain databases, and produce correspondence, reports and tools for analysis and review, i.e., Word, Excel.
  • Ability to represent Development and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation by participating in meetings and conferences involving senior officials and volunteer leaders.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, donors and volunteers. Foster the Principles of Community.
  • Bachelor degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a robust and dynamic environment; as well as 2-4 years of Major Gift and Annual Giving Development experience preferred.

Overview of the Position:
The Sustainability Manager will work with the existing Miami Healthy Schools Program (HSP) team to support schools in implementing the policy and environment strategies listed below. S/he will work with the Miami Dade County Public Schools and community leadership to build and train a cadre of school health coaches who will take the lead in sustaining these efforts after the 2011-2012 school year. S/he will serve as a content expert and offer technical assistance to schools as well as conduct training of trainers and provide one-on-one support to coaches. S/he will have primary responsibility for engaging with school district leadership and key stakeholders to develop and implement the cadre of coach's sustainability plan for Miami Dade County. This includes the brokering of national and local evidence-based resources to address school needs and training volunteers such as parents and community leaders to assist schools in implementing changes.
Applicable Communities Putting Prevention to Work MAPPS strategies: 1) develop and implement safe routes to schools plans, 2) require daily physical education, 3) require physical activity as a part of all after school programs, 4) implement farm to school strategies, 5) create safe and available spaces for physical activity, 6) reduce unhealthy food/beverage access and increase healthier food/beverage access, and 7) promote healthier eating and physical activity through participation in the local social media campaign.

This position reports to the Regional Lead for Miami Dade.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Miami HSP team, as well as school district leadership and key stakeholders, to support schools in achieving applicable MAPPS strategies.
  • Develop training materials and conduct trainings for a cadre of coaches beginning in the 2010-2011 school year.
  • Offer ongoing training and technical support to coaches.
  • Broker evidence-based resources to assist schools in achieving MAPPS strategies and creating sustainable healthy school environments.
  • Represent the HSP at key stakeholder meetings in Miami-Dade County.
  • Closely track and report progress and results.
  • Support the HSP Field Team in achieving overall goals as assigned.

Performance will be measured by the progress of schools in achieving the MAPPS strategies and the implementation of the cadre of coach's sustainability plan for Miami-Dade County.

Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree is required. Ten years experience, including a minimum of two years experience in project management and professional training is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of the school health environment and /or successful management and implementation of programs in schools.
  • The candidate will demonstrate an entrepreneurial, solutions-focused and collaborative approach to achieving systems change.
  • Experience in developing and conducting professional trainings is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to leverage support from diverse stakeholders and work effectively with a team to achieve results is required.
  • It is desirable for the candidate to have experience in education or working with educators and specific expertise in school health practices and policies, specifically the MAPPS strategies listed above.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time throughout Miami-Dade County and to national meetings up to four times per year.

Overview of the Position:

The Senior Director will work closely with the Alliance’s Executive Director to develop and implement cross-cutting strategic initiatives that advance the work of the Alliance. The Senior Director will oversee the implementation of all Alliance strategic initiatives that involve more than one department or initiative, building and maintaining external strategic relationships, and plan and implement new organizational strategies.

Specific duties will include working with the Executive Director and senior staff to identify and build strategic opportunities, manage external relationships, and oversee cross-initiative projects. The Senior Director will work with Alliance leadership to build strategic relationships, have the authority to assign work related to cross-cutting projects, and leverage external relationships in ways that benefit the Alliance, as a whole. The Senior Director may also be required to fulfill other management and leadership responsibilities, as needed.

The Senior Director will report directly to the Executive Director. Frequent travel within the continental United States will also be required.

  • Demonstrated success at leading multi-sectoral strategic initiatives.

Overview of the Position:

The Operations and Finance Director will oversee and direct all Alliance Operations and Finance activities, including human resources, information technology, legal and finance. Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct all human resources, operations and finance functions and projects for a large and complex organization.

  • Manage all human resources functions for the Alliance.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a project management system to track progress towards Alliance metrics.
  • Develop a comprehensive internal communications system.
  • Manage all legal review, contract, MOU and procurement processes.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of five to ten years of progressive operations, human resources and finance leadership.

Overview of the Position:

The Senior Technology Manager will manage the internal information technology (IT) infrastructure for the Alliance. The Senior Technology Manager will oversee the IT strategic plan and is responsible for overall guidance, delivery, resourcing, vendor management and decision making on the internal use of IT. This position reports to the Operations and Finance Director.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day IT systems operations.
  • Oversee the IT strategic plan.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of internal IT strategic initiatives.
  • Provide input and guidance on other Alliance initiatives with IT implications or components.
  • Manage IT budget and oversee all technology purchases to ensure the highest level of integration with existing software/hardware.
  • Manage and direct all relationships with external technology vendors to ensure seamless delivery of services and equipment to Alliance initiatives and staff.
  • Develop and maintain internal IT policies, procedures and standards that can be used as a basis for all internal IT initiatives (i.e. version control, backup and restore, patch management, anti-virus updates, authentication and authorization, etc.).
  • Coordinate and manage the network/wireless environments, workstations/laptops and printers.
  • Configure, update and perform (or assist others in performing) simple customizations on applications (i.e. CRM, ATS, SharePoint – including reports, workflow, etc.).
  • Manage Help Desk provider to perform Level 1 response for immediate desktop issues.
  • Oversee administration of Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS).
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and provide strategic counsel and recommendations for purchase and integration.
  • Manage the implementation and training of colleagues in use of new technologies.

Overview of the Position:
Currently, the annual Alliance budget of the Alliance is $10 million. We are seeking a Director of Development who will lead and execute all development and fundraising activities in coordination with the Alliance’s Board and Executive Director.

The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director and Alliance Board of Directors to design and implement the organization’s long-term strategies. He/she will provide leadership and direction to set and define key fundraising goals, refine and implement innovative methods of raising funds, commensurate with the bold vision of the organization, and help to craft future strategies for advancing progressive philanthropy. The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director on issues pertaining to day-to-day management, operations, administration and growth of the development efforts.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership for the Alliance’s philanthropic development function. In concert with other members of senior management and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will craft long-term development strategies and design and implement the appropriate tactics to ensure success.
  • Work with the senior team to secure grants and funds from a variety of sources, including foundations, individuals, corporations and multilateral agencies. Engage in relevant entrepreneurial funding activities consistent with the Alliance’s values and principles. This includes research efforts to explore new sources of support, designing strategies to identify, educate, involve and cultivate prospective donors, and further developing, maintaining and enhancing the Alliance’s relationships with current individual and institutional donors.
  • Develop, oversee and manage an annual development budget.
  • Present the Alliance’s vision, mission, values and goals with commitment and passion to the donor community and other audiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Significant demonstrated experience managing a fundraising function in previous professional capacities.
  • Confidence, creativity and maturity to establish credibility and influence donors at all levels.
  • Proven effectiveness as a senior leader is essential.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral, are critical.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with national, regional and local media outlets interested in education, health, and childhood obesity.
  • Facilitate all aspects of media relations from proactive pitching to reactively processing media calls, providing background, setting up and staffing interviews, and fact checking articles.
  • Support relationships with media partners, celebrities, and other prominent third parties to reach target audiences with relevant Alliance messaging.
  • Write and edit communications and marketing materials for a variety of audiences including parents, teachers, school superintendents, school nurses, physical educators, food service directors, and others including the professional associations that many in these audiences belong to as members.
  • Collaborate with Web Manager and Healthy Schools Program team members to develop and regularly update web content that supports the Alliance’s programmatic and marketing goals.
  • Develop and execute marketing plans for Healthy Schools Program online and onsite recruitment in coordination with Healthy Schools Program Director and the Director of Marketing and Communications.
  • Project management of print, online and video assets for use by the Healthy Schools Program and Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
  • Collaborate with Alliance in-house graphic designer and outside vendors to create professional, top-quality marketing collateral for the Healthy Schools Program.
  • Develop and implement social media messaging for use by the Alliance, its staff and its fans and friends.
  • Stay informed and updated on the Healthy Schools Program current events and share newsworthy information with the MarCom group in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor and track media impressions for the Healthy Schools Program, and report successes to internal audiences as well as external partners.
  • Oversee the work of interns and fellows in collecting news clippings, and preparing regular reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Communications to consistently apply the Alliance brand.
  • Work collaboratively on all facets of Healthy Schools Program marketing and communications with the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or equivalent education experience.

Overview of the Position:

The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the Healthy School Program Director and the School leadership team to oversee the identification, coordination and execution of projects and strategies across HSP teams.

Specific duties will include working with the HSP Director and the School leadership team to identify cross-team projects, develop project management plans for addressing or implementing solutions, and engaging the necessary resources (internal and cross-initiative) for successful implementation.

The Senior Project Manager will report directly to the HSP Director, following the guidance of and in closest coordination with the Associate Directors of Field Team, Content Management and Strategic Initiatives.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating work related to cross-team projects, and leverage internal resources in ways that benefit the Healthy Schools Program as a whole. The Senior Project Manager may also represent HSP on other cross-initiative projects for the Alliance.

The Senior Project Manager will coordinate and assist efforts to improve Healthy Schools Program implementation in key areas including, but not limited to:

  • Ensure that the Healthy Schools Program strategic plan is being implemented across all teams with fidelity to mission.
  • Facilitate deeper integration between the individual HSP teams and their members to enhance cross-team collaboration and information sharing.
  • Help further develop and oversee quality assurance strategies in all elements of program implementation.
  • Develop the plan for and oversee individual project workgroups as emerging needs or initiatives arise.

The National Recognition Manager is jointly responsible for the overall execution of a national recognition program that awards and celebrates schools that have policies and programs that promote a healthy school environment. The National Recognition Manager will report to the Associate Director for Content Management and will follow the guidance of the Lead National Recognition Manager with whom they will work in closest coordination. Together they will further develop systems and processes to review, verify and reward schools that meet designated award criteria. In verifying award applications the National Recognition Manager(s) will coordinate and be in constant communication with member schools and will also collaborate closely with each team within the Healthy Schools Program as well as the Alliance Marketing and Communications Team.

Job Description: Part-Time Help Desk Coordinator, Healthy Schools Program (25 Set Hours Per Week)

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation was formed in 2005 after the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation joined forces to create a healthier generation by addressing one of the nation's leading public health threats -- childhood obesity. Along with our co-leader Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, the Alliance works to positively affect the places that can make a difference to a child's health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctor's offices and communities.

The Healthy Schools Program (HSP) is an initiative of the Alliance that supports schools in the development of healthier school environments and recognizes schools that succeed. The Healthy Schools Program supports more than 9,000 schools in all 50 states with an annual budget of $8 million per year.

Overview of the Position:

The Help Desk Coordinator will serve as the first-line of customer service support for the over 9,000 HSP schools (and growing fast) who depend upon an online web platform and multiple online tools to complete important program and policy changes through our direct technical assistance.

The Help Desk Coordinator will report to the Healthy Schools Program Web and Technology Manager and will be in constant communication with member schools and will collaborate closely with each team within the Healthy Schools Program as well as the Alliance Marketing and Communications Team.

This is a great opportunity for an outgoing, customer-service oriented individual with a strong technical skill set who is interested in promoting healthier school environments for all youth, would like to be involved with a growing national non-profit, and would like to support passionate colleagues and schools across the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for answering incoming support requests (75% phone, 25% e-mail and other methods) and providing efficient, strong customer support for schools who require help using any/all of the Healthy Schools Programs’ online tools during the hours of 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT.
  • Help develop and implement the plan for Help Desk Service and customer service tracking to all Healthy Schools Program member schools and internal team members.
  • Identify and escalate online customer service situations requiring urgent attention to the Web and Technology Manager.
  • Log calls and interactions and track and route problems and requests and document resolutions for future reference.
  • Utilize the data collected from tracking the customer service interactions to advise on appropriate action and introduce solutions to minimize the recurrence of specific issues.
  • Perform routine and project-based testing of online tools and other technology.
  • Provide assistance to the Healthy Schools Program Web and Technology Manager on ongoing projects and other opportunities as assigned.
  • Serve as teacher, technician, and record keeper while handling multiple tasks in a high-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in telephone Help Desk support
  • Experience relevant to the fields of education or public health/an understanding of educators or the school environment is helpful but not required
  • Working knowledge of fundamental operations of both MAC and PC platforms, relevant software, hardware and other equipment
  • Proficiency in standard office software applications and the ability to understand how users (schools) with various versions of office software can best interface with our web tools
  • Possess an understanding of/experience working with template-based content management systems
  • Possess an understanding of cross-browser issues and solutions
  • Will have exceptional communications, customer service and problem-solving skills with the ability to ask probing questions with great patience while proposing and explaining solutions clearly
  • Experience summarizing and relaying complex technical information to a variety of audiences
  • Entrepreneurial and flexible, willing to roll-up his/her sleeves to do whatever is necessary to get the job done
  • Detail oriented and adept at balancing multiple tasks with regard to the oversight and coordination of multiple projects
  • Ability to work and manage one's time independently while also interfacing regularly with multiple teams of colleagues and school stakeholders
  • Ability to manage and meet tight deadlines on multiple projects
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years professional experience
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time across the United States

Overview of the Position:

The Information Coordinator will report to the Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives and will work closely with four Information Coordinator colleagues to provide overall administrative support across a variety of functions for the Healthy Schools Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Through data entry, learn and accurately maintain current systems for measuring necessary aspects of the Healthy Schools Program
  • Work with the Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives and fellow Information Coordinator colleagues to plan and manage internal communications and ensure awareness of program activities, successes and key milestones
  • Support members of the Healthy Schools Program Field Team virtually by distributing materials (both electronically and by mail), tracking adherence to data reporting and entry requirements and general assistance when needed
  • Provide telephonic support to member schools and individuals using our website
  • Coordinate with schools and colleagues on the collection of grant applications, submission to the review committee, entry of payment and notification of grant status to schools
  • Help organize and execute Healthy Schools Program events (travel minimum of 2 times per year, possibly including weekends)
  • Participate in workgroups and other projects as opportunities become available

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years experience in administrative support, ideally in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Access
  • Experience in developing and managing relationships with diverse groups/environments and individuals.
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects and competing requests
  • Ability to integrate across multiple teams and levels of supervision
  • Must enjoy working independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must demonstrate ability to acquire understanding and absorb new information rapidly
  • Possess excellent oral and written communications as well as excellent follow-through skills
  • Have very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Have a high degree of professionalism, creativity and integrity
  • Have an attitude that “no job is too small” and be flexible to changing environments
  • Knowledge of the school environment and/or successful management/implementation of programs in schools, health or with youth is a plus
