empowerME@school

The empowerME Movement created empowerME@school for middle and high school students who want to make healthy changes to their school's snack and drink choices.

By participating in empowerME@school, students learn advocacy skills including surveying their peers, developing action plans, public speaking, working with adults and mentors, evaluating group efforts and celebrating victories. These are valuable skills that students can also apply in other settings throughout their lifetimes.

Success Stories

Students who have led change in their schools by using empowerME@school have made great strides including working with cafeteria staff to initiate a program of healthier snack and drink options and starting a salad bar.

Empowering Students – the “José Factor”The Alliance’s empowerME@school student toolkit and Facilitator Guide stand on the belief that all students have the ability to mobilize and lead change and that there are many benefits when students are engaged.

Students have this to say about using empowerME@school

  • I like that we are actively making a difference -- not just standing by watching.
  • I liked the fact that we made suggestions to people higher up and they listened.
  • We got to make the changes, not the teachers.
  • The toolkit gives you what you need to make a difference and then you just need to do it.

Encourage youth to make a difference in their schools.
