It makes me feel good!
What motivated you to apply to be an ambassador?
I wanted to be a part of a like-minded group working towards the same goal rather than competing against one another.
Why do you feel it is important for schools to be a part of the fight against childhood obesity?
Children are at school for more of their lives than at home! We need to be models for our students in school. For them to reach their true academic potential, they need to better their health.
What’s your proudest accomplishment in creating a healthier generation?
Namaste Charter School has won many awards for a healthy environment: School of Character, Gold Recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation; Gold Award of Distinction from HUSSC. But my proudest moments are watching students take hold of their lives and make themselves healthier.
If you could make one healthy change in your school or community, what would it be?
Get street vendors to sell healthier products.
What is a word of advice for others who would like to make a healthy change in his or her community?
Little changes DO make a difference!
There are many ways to join the movement to support childhood health. You can transform an entire school into a healthier environment or simply share resources with your community.
