Your Inspiration for Being Healthy:
My inspiration is the importance of living a healthy lifestyle for longevity and good health and wellness.
What motivated you to apply to be an ambassador?
My motivation was the need for our students to eat healthier foods and provide more physical activity for them. I also wanted to use the resources of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to create a healthy school environment.
Why do you feel it is important for schools to be a part of the fight against childhood obesity?
Schools must take part in the fight against childhood obesity because in our community, nutrition education and physical activity are very important components of our school’s efforts to provide an environment that promotes and encourages wellness.
What’s your proudest accomplishment in creating a healthier generation?
My proudest moments have been in the success of our school in implementing healthy programs and achieving national recognition.
If you could make one healthy change in your school or community, what would it be?
I would like to implement a healthy pantry for our parents and to educate them more on preparing more healthy meals.
What is a word of advice for others who would like to make a healthy change in his or her community?
Healthy changes start with developing a committed school wellness committee and the support of school administrators. This committee and school administrators will assist with developing healthy programs and guidelines for the school.
There are many ways to join the movement to support childhood health. You can transform an entire school into a healthier environment or simply share resources with your community.
In Your State
Take a look at the childhood obesity epidemic in your state and see what’s being done to support the health of your kids.
