Eric serves the Alliance for a Healthier Generation as the National Physical Education/Physical Activity Advisor. He provides content expertise, professional development and brokers resources for physical educators and classroom teachers.
Before coming to the Alliance, Eric served as the Physical Education Director for Denver Public Schools in Denver, CO for 13 years. In addition, he taught Physical Education for 22 years for DPS. During his tenure with DPS, he earned the honors of Distinguished Teacher of the Year, Colorado Administrator of the Year and the National Physical Education Administrator of the Year (SHAPE America).
As the PE Director, Eric wrote and administered more than $7 million in grants for the district, including three PEP grants. He also oversaw the expansion of physical education when Denver County voters passed a Mill Levy to increase the number of PE teachers, purchase equipment and fund the PE Instructional Coordinator position.
Eric organized and conducted the Physical Education and Dance Summer Institute from 2002– 2014. He was a presenter at the first annual Urban Physical Education Leadership Summit in New York City, July, 2011. Eric has served on numerous committees including the DPS Commission on School Nutrition and Physical Activity, the DPS Health Advisory Council, the DPS Sound Body Sound Mind Advisory Board, the Metro State University K12 Physical Education Advisory Board and the Colorado Department of Education Content Collaborative in Physical Education.
Eric was an accomplished college baseball coach and high softball coach and a college and professional basketball referee. He has refereed in 20 NCAA tournaments including the women’s Final Four in 2003.
Eric and his wife reside in Wheat Ridge, CO and have two daughters, one son and one grandson. His daughters and wife are teachers and his son is a student at Colorado State University. In his leisure time, Eric is an avid golfer.
