What motivated you to join the Youth Advisory Board?

I love to be active. I love taekwondo, which is a sport that I have done all my life. While training for the Junior Olympics, I learned that being fit is important.

What barriers do youth face when trying to live a healthy lifestyle?

Some of the bad things such as candy taste so good.

Why is it important that youth have a voice in the fight against childhood obesity?

It is important for youth to have a voice in the fight against childhood obesity because youth influence each other. The healthy habits we maintain today can become the healthy habits we maintain as adults.

What’s your greatest accomplishment so far in creating a healthier generation?

Over the past two years I have coordinated an annual “Fun Run and Walk” for kids in the city of Bowie, MD. Hosting the runs has allowed me to partner with other health and fitness organizations in my community to help share information about fun ways to stay active and eat healthy. I am excited about hosting the third annual “Fun Run and Walk” for kids on Global Youth Service Day in April, 2015.

If you could make one healthy change in your school or community, what would it be?

I would like my school to offer healthier snacks and water during lunchtime.
