Bluff Park Elementary School

Our job as educators is to fully educate students and that includes educating them about their bodies and their health.

Physical Education Teacher Beth Uhlman’s favorite thing about teaching at Bluff Park Elementary is that it is a community in every sense of the word. Each morning, only two buses pull into the school building; most students carpool, ride their bikes or walk to campus with a parent. At two times during the year – the Jingle Bell Run in December and the Shamrock Shuffle in March – students and staff lace up their sneakers and run from the playground through the surrounding neighborhood. For themed holiday runs, many parents even stop by the school during lunch to jog with their child on the track or join them for a healthy meal in the cafeteria. It’s easy to spot Bluff Park’s remarkable success with the Healthy Schools Program, which Beth attributes to the support she receives from parents, her peers and administrators: “I see the impact of our work every time my students meet their push-up or mileage goal, and every time a parent tells me how their child asked them to add more colors to their plate.”
