The Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Beverage Tax
May 19, 2009
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is not an advocacy organization. The Alliance does not take positions on policy or political issues, and does not accept funding from the food, beverage, and health insurance industries.
Recently, the work of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation has been represented in organizational position statements on national and regional proposals to tax soda and carbonated beverages. On behalf of our dedicated staff and the millions of young people they positively affect every day, we wanted to take a moment to set the record straight.
We have no position on beverage taxes. We are a solutions-based organization focused on reducing the nationwide prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015.
To achieve that goal, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation works to broker voluntary agreements and build local capacity to positively affect the places that can make a difference in a child’s health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctor’s offices and communities.
