The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Statement on the F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012

A Report from the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

September 18, 2012

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation applauds the work of the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, for shining the spotlight on a national epidemic through their report, F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012.

The data presented in F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012 underscore the stark reality of obesity in the United States and reinforce the necessity for a broad group of stakeholders—corporations, schools, communities, parents, government and individuals—to help tackle this epidemic.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation, works to combat childhood obesity. We understand this issue from the front lines. We see the complex challenges in the schools, out-of-school time facilities, and doctors’ offices we work with across the country. This work is not easy, but the data are crucial to guide our collective efforts to address barriers to eating better and moving more.

We support the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation efforts to bring the necessary attention and recommendations for action to combat obesity. Together we can ensure the next generation lives long and healthy lives.
