Rewarding Schools for Purchasing “Better for You” Products

Café Fuel and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Team Up to Promote Healthy School Foods

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN) – CAFE FUEL™ is rewarding America’s school districts for serving “Better for You” products and for creating a healthy environment for our youth.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, has teamed up with CAFE FUEL to encourage schools to serve more nutritious meals and snacks. The “Better for You” rewards program from Cool School Cafe®, will reward school district food service leaders who purchase qualifying “Better for You” products. These products must meet the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s nutritional guidelines for school meals, snack foods, and beverages.

From now until January 31, 2013, CAFE FUEL is offering district food service leaders the chance to earn 1,000 Cool School Points to be used toward rewards that can benefit the school district’s programs, employees, families, and students.

To qualify for the offer, school districts are asked to enroll in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program and purchase at least 100 cases of any CAFE FUEL “Better for You” qualifying products.

The Healthy School Program framework, created in partnership with the American Heart Association, comprises a set of best practices to help schools improve their health, nutrition, and physic activity efforts. The Program also offers a benchmark system with three levels of achievement: bronze, silver, and gold. Each level of achievement marks a school’s progress toward its goals in seven Wellness Categories: Policy and Systems, School Meals, Competitive Foods and Beverages, Health Education, Employee Wellness, Physical Education and Student Wellness. The program is a comprehensive approach to rethink not just health, but what it means to be in a place that supports healthy decisions.

More than 15,000 schools are enrolled in the Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program and are using the organization’s best practices to get students and staff eating better and moving more. To sign up for the Healthy Schools Program, visit the Alliance’s website registration page – Click Here
