Let’s Move Active Schools
About two months ago there was a big event in Chicago where the First Lady announced the Launch of Let’s Move Active Schools. It’s a collaboration with a lot of us in the field of childhood health, all working together toward the common goal of increasing physical activity in schools around the country.
We’ve set our sights high. We want to engage 50,000 schools across the nation and get students moving for their recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day. And guess what? It’s working. Currently more than 2,000 schools have joined the initiative and have taken the first steps to improve opportunities to move more for their students.
And these are only the first steps. Creating a more active school is a process. It’s revaluating the current policies and practices regarding physical activity on campus and learning the best ways to alter them to increase movement at your school and for your students. The process has six definitive steps so no one is getting lost along the way and there is a clear path for measured success.
It’s been great joining forces with Let’s Move, AAHPERD, Nike, and the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition to continue helping schools create active campuses. Learn more about how your school can join Let’s Move Active Schools and join the movement to move.
