How to Create a School Running Club in 3 Easy Steps

Creating a running club at school doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming for your staff or volunteers. Here’s how we did it at Edison Elementary in three simple steps:

1) Print a series of lap-tracking sheets numbered 1-50, 50-100, 100-150, etc. and laminate the sheets so that students can carry them while they’re running.

2) Station teachers or parent volunteers on the track or field where students run; after each lap have the volunteers punch a hole in their sheet next to the next number.

3) Give students a certificate (these can be printed at school or by a parent volunteer at home) each time they reach a milestone, such as 100 laps.

To make sure our entire school community recognizes our students’ accomplishments, we also designed a bulletin board in our school to highlight our Running Club Superstars. Each time our students complete a milestone we write their name on a star!
