America’s Healthiest Schools to Be Honored in Washington D.C.

National AfterSchool Association and NIKE, Inc. receiving Healthier Generation HERO Awards from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation

(Washington, D.C.) September 27, 2016 – The Alliance for a Healthier Generation will honor schools, school districts, the National AfterSchool Association and NIKE, Inc. at the Alliance’s 2016 Leaders Summit, September 30 and October 1 in Washington, D.C.

The event will celebrate the highest-achieving America’s Healthiest Schools: 72 Gold and Silver Award-winning schools from across the country. These schools meet or exceed stringent standards set by the Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program for serving healthier meals and snacks, getting students moving more, offering high-quality physical and health education and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.

The Alliance will also honor the National AfterSchool Association and NIKE, Inc. as the 2016 Healthier Generation HERO award winners, recognizing the important roles companies, individuals and communities play in improving the lives of our nation’s children.

Additionally, Let’s Move! Active Schools, for which the Alliance is one of four managing partners, will be awarding two school districts, Roselle Public Schools in New Jersey and Mission Consolidated Independent School District in Texas, for providing strong district-wide support for increased physical education and physical activity.

All of America’s Healthiest Schools winners also received the 2016 Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award. Let’s Move! Active Schools follows as the Alliance's Healthy Schools Program Framework, with a focus on physical education and physical activity.
