If you took a walk around your school today, would you see your school staff drinking water, participating with students in recess and PE, eating fruit and veggies, having a walking parent-teacher conference, etc.? If you thought, no, this isn?t happening at my school then this is the session for you. If our goal is to have all school staff modeling healthy eating and physical activity behaviors in the presence of students then we must provide staff with the tools they need to make the changes. Participants will learn the connection between staff and students' health behaviors. They will learn strategies to increase staff modeling healthy behaviors and environmental changes that can be made to ensure school staff are continuing to model healthy behaviors in front of students.

In order for students and youth to achieve, we need school and out-of-school time staff healthy and in attendance each day. Whether you’re in the beginning stages of kicking off your staff wellness program or trying to reengage staff in your current program, this session will provide you with the tools needed to assess your staffs’ interests, establish the best communication methods, model healthy behaviors, offer wellness programs and make environmental changes to keep the momentum of your staff wellness program alive and sustainable!
1. Understand why staff wellness is important to the success of a healthy school/out-of-school time environment and the connection between staff and students’/youths’ health behaviors.
2. Learn the importance of personal wellness assessments, the effectiveness of a staff interest survey and examples of wellness offerings you can implement
3. Identify key communication tools to assist employee wellness programs in engaging all staff members.
4. Learn strategies to increase staffs’ modeling of healthy behaviors in front of students/youth.
5. Learn resources that will assist schools and sites in creating a healthier work environment for their staff members.
