Step 1: Action Planning
Think about how we travel from place to place. If we are going to a new destination, we typically use GPS to find the best route. Use these four steps as waypoints to your employee wellness destination.
- Use data from your health assessment and staff survey to determine the needs of your staff
- Identify a school wellness committee member to lead the staff wellness program
- Create an annual action plan that addresses the needs and interests identified in your survey responses
- Collect and track staff participation rates so you know what’s working
Step 2: Communicate and Promote
Whether you’re emailing the Monthly Shareable Newsletter, pinning program information on a bulletin board, creating a district calendar of staff wellness events or starting a staff wellness Facebook group, your program must include regular messaging that informs and engages. Try a few different methods of communication to determine which form(s) work best for your school or site staff.

Step 3: Make Changes
Take this opportunity to create sustainability in your staff wellness efforts by converting your staff wellness programs and practices into policy. Download the Alliance’s Model Wellness Policy template to use as your guide in developing staff wellness policies that can be incorporated into your district’s wellness policy.
Once you’ve completed all five steps to refresh your policy, you’re ready to put your policy to practice!
