Refresh Your Policy

Our Healthy Schools Program has been working with districts across the country since 2006 to create and implement strong wellness policies, guided by evidence-based best practices. In collaboration with the USDA, and in alignment with the final rule, we have created a Model Wellness Policy template to make revising your district or school’s policy easier than ever.

STEP 1:

Review Requirements

Review your state requirements and district policy to see if it meets the requirements of the Final Rule: Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

STEP 2:

Make Changes

Download the Alliance’s Model Wellness Policy template to use as your guide to start making revisions to your policy.

Need help? Submit your policy for review. We are ready to help districts ensure their local wellness policy is in compliance with the final federal rule!

STEP 3:

Assess the Approval Process

Each school system is unique so it’s important to understand your local school board’s approval process. Reach out to your board members and identify their goals, attend a board meeting to see how they work, and then move quickly. Ask to be included on the next school board meeting agenda.

STEP 4:

Gain Approval

Get approval and adopt the revisions, ensuring that all who are impacted by the changes to your policy are involved in the process.

Once you’ve completed all five steps to refresh your policy, you’re ready to put your policy to practice!
