Alliance for a Healthier Generation Expands Innovative Education in Rural Kansas and Missouri

New initiative brings active learning to schools across Kansas and Missouri.

Students use The Walking Classroom in Durham, NC.

Alliance for a Healthier Generation is proud to launch a new initiative, made possible in part by a 2025 grant from The Patterson Family Foundation. This project is dedicated to supporting health and learning in rural communities across Kansas and Western Missouri. Through this effort, more than 400 students at seven regional sites will benefit from The Walking Classroom.

The Walking Classroom’s award-winning podcast-based program helps educators integrate physical activity into academic instruction in meaningful and sustainable ways. Participating educators will receive comprehensive training to ensure effective implementation and long-term success, boosting student health and academic engagement.

This initiative reflects Healthier Generation’s enduring commitment to fostering healthier futures for young people in underserved communities. By working in close collaboration with schools and community members, we combine resources and expertise to address health disparities and promote well-being through innovative, evidence-based programming.
