Alliance for a Healthier Generation Expands Physical Activity and Education Initiatives in North Carolina
Statewide expansion of The Walking Classroom brings movement-based learning to classrooms across North Carolina.
Alliance for a Healthier Generation today announced the expansion of The Walking Classroom program across North Carolina, made possible in part through generous investments from the North Carolina GSK Foundation, The Labcorp Charitable Foundation, and Camber Foundation. This initiative will add 10 new sites statewide, reaching more than 600 students annually.
The Walking Classroom is an innovative, evidence-based program that combines physical activity with academic learning. Students take brisk walks while listening to standards-aligned educational podcasts, promoting physical health, academic engagement, and social-emotional growth.
"We are deeply grateful for the commitment of partners who are joining us to improve the health and education of students in North Carolina,” said Kathy Higgins, CEO of Healthier Generation. “The request from educators across the state for resources that can positively impact the health and well-being of students continues to grow. At Healthier Generation, we are proud to form strong alliances that will champion whole child health and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.”
