Healthier Generation Expands Childhood Health Partnerships in Eastern North Carolina
The initiative will advance school-based health collaboration across three counties, convening local partners to share best practices and strengthen regional capacity.
Alliance for a Healthier Generation has launched a two-year initiative to build regional capacity and strengthen school-based health initiatives across Lenoir, Bertie, and Pitt counties in North Carolina. The project will expand a Childhood Health Partnership in Lenoir County and convene a regional Community of Practice to align schools, health systems, and community organizations around shared health priorities. This project received support from Camber Foundation.
“Northeastern North Carolina is home to culturally rich and resilient communities, and some of the most diverse rural counties in America. Despite these strengths, communities in Lenoir, Bertie, and Pitt counties are confronting significant challenges impacting health and well-being. These challenges notably include limited healthcare access and utilization, high rates of food insecurity, limited economic mobility, and lack of transportation infrastructure.” - Healthier Together: Bridging School-Health Partnerships for Regional Impact
By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, this effort aims to bridge resource gaps, scale school-based health initiatives, and build long-term capacity for sustainable health improvements. “Our goal is to create a culture where every child grows up healthy, resilient, and ready to thrive,” said Kathy Higgins, CEO of Alliance for a Healthier Generation
“With sustained engagement over multiple years, we aim to increase the health literacy of children and families, improve access to resources for families and young people, and increase capacity of regional network to ensure resource sharing and sustainability.” - Healthier Together: Bridging School-Health Partnerships for Regional Impact
