Healthier Generation & Kohl’s Kick Off New Decade on a Healthy Note

Eating Healthy at Home campaign promotes bite-sized changes that can have a big-time impact on family health and well-being

January 6, 2020 - Today, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (Healthier Generation) and Kohl’s announced the launch of Eating Healthy at Home – a new campaign and suite of resources to help families take small steps to eat healthier on any budget. Starting today, families will have access to Eating Healthy at Home resources to help set healthy goals for the new year and create healthier habits that can last a lifetime.

Eating Healthy at Home is designed for busy parents and caregivers who want what is best for their families. Designed to relieve stress and boost family well-being, Eating Healthy at Home aims to ensure that the healthy choice is the easy choice for families. Resources, available at no cost at HealthierGeneration.org/eatinghealthyathome, include seasonal recipes, shopping guides, activities and more to encourage healthier eating when at home and at school. All resources are available both in English and in Spanish.

“On any given day, parents and caregivers are pressed for time and resources are needed to make sure that family meals are healthy meals,” said Kathy Higgins, chief executive officer at the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. “Our goal is to offer great resources and simple solutions for families to make mealtime more nutritious and less stressful.”

Data shows that youth with access to nutritious foods, regular physical activity opportunities and supportive environments for social-emotional health are more likely to see improved health and learning development. Eating Healthy at Home is just one component of the Kohl’s Healthy at Home family wellness initiative that encourages families to prioritize a healthy lifestyle in their homes and wherever their children live, learn and play.

In 2019, Kohl’s committed $2 million to Healthier Generation to launch Kohl’s Healthy at Home and provide families across the country with easy-to-use tools and resources that promote healthier lifestyles for children and youth. Kohl’s donation is made possible through the company’s philanthropic program, Kohl’s Cares, which sells children’s books and toys and donates 100 percent of the net profit from the sale of these items to support the health and wellness of families in our communities.

New and updated resources for nutrition, physical activity, and social-emotional health are scheduled to be announced in late 2020 and throughout 2021 on kohlshealthyathome.org.  To learn more and access Eating Healthy at Home resources, visit HealthierGeneration.org/eatinghealthyathome.
