A Community-Based Approach to Solve Chronic Disease & Improve Public Health | Becoming Bridge Builders podcast

At the recent White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health – Novo Nordisk committed $20M over the next three years in support of improving access to healthy foods and safe spaces for physical activity in under-resourced communities as well as addressing upstream barriers to reduce the burden of chronic disease. Given Novo's longstanding history in public health, they are collaborating with Alliance for a Healthier Generation on this commitment by doubling down on community-driven solutions to chronic disease prevention in rural communities of North Carolina with a focus on building education about and access to healthy food.

My guests are Kathy Higgins, chief executive officer of Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national expert on health care and philanthropy, previously president and CEO of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation, and Apu Patel, director – US Corporate Sustainability and Social Impact.
