Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School Earns National Healthy Schools Silver Award

Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School - Indio, CA

At Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School, students, staff and parents are all involved in the effort to build a healthier community. To stay active all day long, students can join the school’s Mile Club, run laps with their grade level in the morning, and participate in new dance units in physical education class. Healthy eating is promoted through a series of nutrition lessons for students, and the cafeteria ensures that all meals are compliant with federal nutrition standards and that all competitive foods align with the USDA’s Smart Snacks in School standards. Students are encouraged to share nutritional information and snack ideas with their parents to establish healthy habits when they leave campus, too. “We found it extremely motivating to include the students and parents in the process in order to have a lasting impact beyond school,” said Clayton Hill, school administrator.
