Local School Wellness Policy

A local school wellness policy is a written document that guides a local educational agency or school district's efforts to create supportive school nutrition and physical activity environments before-, during-, and after-school. All education agencies participating in federal Child Nutrition Programs, including the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program, are required to develop and implement a wellness policy.

Effective wellness policies support a culture of health within a school community by establishing practices and procedures that make the healthy choice the easy choice for students, staff, and families.
